IyASA – Inkululeko Yabatsha School of arts

Dance & Music Theatre from Africa

IyASA was founded in 1998 as a dance and drama school in Bulawayo / Zimbabwe.

Today it has more than 60 members. The ensemble is now touring around the world with a selection of professional dancers, musicians & actors with plays, dance shows, workshops and music programs.

The productions of IyASA are always a successful blend of traditional & contemporary dance, African poetry, theatre, singing and lots of vibrant music that most definitely gets under your skin!

IyASA & ThEATRO PICCOLO – A successful cooperation!

For approximately 12 years, this unique cooperation between Africa & Europe, Zimbabwe & Austria, IyASA & ThEATRO PICCOLO exists.

During this time, co-productions have continuously been developed that offer a combination of European puppet theatre, African drama, dance and music.

The typical style of the Austrian ensemble, humorous improvisations with a social critical touch, puppetry & swinging songs, merges with the African ensemble´s fascinating voices, impressive choirs, rousing drum rhythms & impulsive dance interludes, to become a wonderful black and white melange of art, professionalism, powerful poetry and pure joie de vivre!

An experience for young and old!

Due to the legal regulations concerning Covid19, however, all productions, plans and tours for 2020 and 2021 had to be cancelled. We are in close contact with our friends and colleagues in Africa and hope that, in the not too distant future, there will again be the opportunity to make theatre, music and art together. We are cautiously optimistic! And we are looking forward to it very much!
